Dr Eva Nislev: Development of Oral Language
Before man’s arrival on earth, language did not exist. And what is it? Barely a breath! A few noises strung together ... It is a mystery impossible to fathom
(Montessori, 1967, p. 108).
This workshop will focus on the development of oral language. Research tells us that an enriched vocabulary from an early age is a strong predictor for school readiness and school success. How does the environment influence language acquisition? And, importantly, what does the authentic Montessori environment offer to support it?
Dr. Eva Nislev, has worked with many different age groups, from early childhood to mature age students. Her experience draws on a wide variety of roles ranging from special education teacher, Montessori centre director, university lecturer and tutor, mentor, specialist arts educator and workshop presenter. She also works as an education consultant to a number of different organisations in Australia. She has presented at Montessori conferences both in Australia and overseas. Eva holds a PhD, MEd. (early childhood), Dip.Teach (infants/primary), Cert. Special Ed., Dip.Ed Montessori (MWEI (Aust) 3-9yrs), Dip.Children’s Services. Eva has a strong background and interest in language acquisition and has developed this workshop to incorporate Montessori’s observations and writings.
