How do you step back from running the farm without stepping away from the decisions, relationships and experience that still matter? 

Moving out of day-to-day management doesn't mean leaving the business — or leaving behind your farming identity. But it does mean finding a new way to contribute. This session explores how farming businesses can plan the transition of leadership and responsibility — without losing the people, knowledge and identity that made the business what it is today.  

A successful leadership transition shouldn't mean losing the experience, knowledge and capability of the people who built the business. The challenge is to create a transition that respects what has come before while making room for what comes next. Taking on leadership of a farming business, doesn’t mean starting from scratch. A strong incoming leader can also recognise the value in what has come before, while understanding that their role is to take the business forward. The challenge is to take ownership of the future without diminishing the identity and contribution that built it into the business that it is today.
