Drawing Perspectives
Event description
Perspective is one of the fundamental components of drawing, and it’s not just for landscape or cityscape artists! Understanding perspective and how to create the illusion of depth is essential for rendering believable scenes in all types of art—whether it's still life, interiors, or even animal and portraiture-based artwork. In this 5-week course, you will master the basics of 1-point and 2-point perspective drawing, and gain the tools to bring depth and realism to your work across a wide range of subjects.
Under the expert guidance of our in-house artist and teacher, Robyn, you'll start by learning the foundational principles of perspective. As the course progresses, you'll have the opportunity to bring in a photograph or image of a streetscape you love, and transform it into a line drawing with Robyn’s support. This hands-on approach will allow you to apply your new skills to real-world examples and build your confidence in perspective drawing.
Throughout the course, you will:
-
Grasp the key principles of 1-point and 2-point perspective to accurately depict depth and space.
-
Choose and work from your own photograph of a streetscape, turning it into a detailed, realistic line drawing.
-
Develop a deeper understanding of how perspective can enhance your work across various artistic genres, from still life and interiors to portraits and more.
If time and student enthusiasm permit, Robyn will introduce 3-point perspective drawing, with the pace and focus determined by the group’s interests. This additional technique will expand your drawing skills, allowing you to tackle more complex and dynamic scenes.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a completed line drawing of your chosen streetscape and a solid understanding of how to apply perspective to any subject. Whether you’re aiming to improve your realism or to enhance your artistic practice in other genres, mastering perspective will elevate your ability to create depth and dimension in all your artwork.
