Event description

Join us for an immersive art and nature experience with Rochelle Summerfield, an artist that explores the interconnectedness of Rivers and Trees.  This workshop will be inspired by the beautiful location of the Banyula Conservation Reserve.

During this one-day event, Rochelle will display one of her large-scale drawings to inspire you and will unveil her special kinships with Trees. Discover her captivating tree drawings, and how she creates them.  She will bring some samples of bark dyes that she uses, and you can test them on different art quality papers with pencils, Art Graf, and W & N gouache paints to explore different marks, textures and layers.  There will be lots of hands-on demonstrations throughout the day. With a small class size, you will be guided by Rochelle to learn through fun, play and experimentation.

Participants will have an opportunity to build a journal of textural drawing techniques starting with several simple art processes to get you going; such as ‘frottage’, shadow work, shapes, contour drawing and colour samples.   We will spend the morning session working with some natural 'fallen bark' dyes, gouache and large and small watercolour brushes to add sample tests and sketches for your process journal.

After the half hour lunch break, discovery how to capture your ideas onto a larger sheet of quality 300gsm art paper by combining artist quality materials with what you have learnt and create your own special artwork to take home.  This is your chance to explore art, nature, and the bonds between us and nature through art. Save the date for a day of inspiration and hands-on artistic exploration with an artist with over thirty years of experience exhibiting and as an art educator.

Morning tea and coffee, snacks are provided.  BYO Lunch.
