Event description
Join visual storyteller Aśka for a hands-on comics workshop celebrating queer identity, creativity, and self-expression. Designed specifically for LGBTIQA+ youth aged 12–25, participants will learn about representation and lived experience through the powerful medium of comics and visual storytelling.
Participants will be guided through a creative process that encourages reflection, imagination, and personal narrative, using simple drawing materials with no prior art experience needed.
Presented in partnership with Freedom Centre's Be Queer Do Craft this free event will be a welcoming and supportive space to create art, connect with peers, and imagine futures that are bold, authentic, and proudly your own.
This workshop is open to LGBTIQA+ youth aged 12–25. Registration is essential
About Aśka
Aśka, (pronounced ‘Ash-ka’), is an energetic visual storyteller, graphic novelist and a hugely engaging and popular presenter. She is passionate about visual literacy, and has published more than dozen books and comics, including the much celebrated graphic novel Stars in Their Eyes (with Jessica Walton). Aśka is a recipient of several government Arts grants, prizes, and the May Gibbs Fellowship. Currently, they are busy working on their solo graphic novel, to be published by Allen & Unwin in 2026.
