Join the Young Diplomats Society (YDS) and the Australia Latam Emerging Leaders Dialogue (ALELD) on Thursday 16 October for Drinks & Dialogue: Voices in Australia-Latin America Diplomacy. 

This relaxed evening is for students, young professionals, and anyone curious about the growing ties between Australia and Latin America.

You’ll hear directly from Latin American and Australian professionals working in diplomacy as they share their journeys, insights, and tips for building a career in international affairs.

This exciting evening will feature:

Speakers

HE Mrs Dianela Pi - Ambassador of Uruguay to Australia

Mrs Pi joined Uruguay's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2000. At headquarters, she worked in the General Directorate for Integration and MERCOSUR Affairs, overseeing issues related to the main MERCOSUR governing bodies. From 2010 to 2012, she served as Deputy Human Rights Director in the General Directorate for Political Affairs. After returning from Geneva, she was appointed Deputy Sub-General Director for Political Affairs and Director for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law from 2017 to 2020.

Ema Lawrence - Director, Global Engagement, Global Victoria

As Director, Global Engagement at Global Victoria, Ema plays a key role in driving Victoria’s strengthened economic engagement with international markets.  Prior to joining Global Victoria, Ema served as a Diplomat at the Australian Embassy in Chile with accreditation to Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela and held several roles at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra.  Her experience also includes serving in the Office of the Secretary General at the United Nations (UN) Secretariat in New York; Australian Mission to the UN in New York and with the Red Cross in Lyon, France.
