9.45am - Paul Gooding
Could ancestral memories lay hidden in your genes?
Do you feel a strong connection to a foreign place or culture? Have you ever visited a new location but felt that you'd been there before? Or have you been drawn to a site but can’t quite explain why? It is possible that it is all coded into your DNA! Genetic control is an extremely complicated process and occurs on many levels, but Paul will try to explain why feelings of déjà vu or a sense of belonging to a place or time might well be inherited. Paul would love to discuss your own experiences as well as his own, and he promises he’ll keep the science content as simple as possible!
When Paul isn't playing accordion with Spiral Dance (that's his night job!), he has a day job as a Molecular Biologist. After completing a PhD in the UK, he moved to Adelaide, where he has carried out research on genetic mechanisms involved with productivity of crop plants and the malting characteristics of barley for both brewing and distillation. He ran a DNA sequencing facility and now teaches researchers how to plan and execute large scale genomics projects for a wide variety of scientific applications. Paul follows a solitary Pagan Druid path and is constantly astonished by how often his spiritual learnings align with his scientific knowledge. He looks forward to sharing some ideas and experiences with you, as well as discussing your own.
11.45am - Kate Broderick:
The Power of Herbs: Medicine for the Whole Being
Medicinal herbs are widely used in the modern world, with a growing acknowledgement of the wisdom traditions from which their uses stem. But we tend to focus on their uses for physical conditions, for their effects on the body. Did you know that most herbs also have effects on the mind, emotions and spirit/energy body? So we can consider herbs holistically in connection with the elements!
Body-Mind-Emotions-Spirit || Earth-Air-Water-Fire
Come join Dr Kate Broderick for a journey through the world of herbs and the four elements, learning about the power of some common herbs to benefit all levels of our being.
Kate is a Druid and member of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. She has worked with multiple nature-based philosophies and elemental systems for the past 25 years, including Druidry, Taoism/Chinese Medicine, Western Astrology, and Buddhist and Native American perspectives, with an Animistic and Shamanic approach. Kate’s daily work is in the practice of naturopathic medicine and vibrational/sound healing, empowering folks to heal themselves, body, mind, emotions and spirit, in synergy with nature’s vast healing power.
Break for lunch - BYO or there is Verte Kitchen next door to the hall.
2.15pm - Melanie Bryson
Creating and Working with Sigils
A Sigil is a symbol with a mystical or magical meaning, a symbolic representation of a practitioner’s desired outcome. In this Sigil workshop Melanie will cover different ways to make sigils so you can find which one resonates with you the most. You’ll spend some time making a standard sigil for yourself to take with you. Please bring paper or notepad, a few coloured pencils/pens/crayons or whatever is your preferred drawing implement, and an idea of something you would like to do magical work on (remove doubt, bring positivity, find friends etc).
Melanie has been a practising witch for 20 years with a penchant for Angelic Magic, Sigils and Initiatory Wicca. She has a strong belief that religion should make us better people - to ourselves and to each other - with an underlying philosophy of “being kind costs nothing”. She has dabbled in many things over the years including Druidry, Grimoire magic, eclectic wicca, OTO, Golden Dawn and most recently Gnosticism.
4.15pm - Wrenne
Chants to raise your spirit and rattle the ancestors.
Join Wrenne for a fun and empowering chanting workshop to raise the spirit and warm the soul.
