DSA SA 'Come and Surf Day' - 24 November 2024
Event description
DSA SA (Disabled Surfing Australia South Australia) hosts 'Come and Surf' sessions for disabled people and their families and carers to enjoy the beach and our great outdoors and experience surfing in a fun and safe setting.
Age, ability, communication or experience levels just don't matter! We work to ensure our intrepid disabled participants build their confidence, have fun and fully experience the surf and the rush of riding a wave! We put “Smiles on their Dials” every time we surf.
Parents, siblings and carers are integral in encouraging our participating surfers, providing support and to 'cheer on' their achievements! We also encourage them to enjoy their day at the beach as well!
Everything is supplied, we have the wetsuits, rashies, surfboards, sunscreen and plenty of cheerful surf confident volunteers to assist all our special needs surfers.
Volunteers are always welcome. If you love the ocean and enjoy helping people we encourage you to register. You should be physically fit enough to be part of a team that forms a corridor standing in up to waist deep water. As the surfer passes through you can give encouragement and assist them if they come off the board. DSA Training occurs on the day and we know that the volunteers have a lot of fun helping our enthusiastic surfers catch their waves.
We gather at the Moana SLSC from approximately 12.30pm to register, get our equipment sorted and ensure everyone receives a safety briefing before we start.
The DSA SA 'Come and Surf Day' happens at beautiful Moana Beach 3 times each summer (in November, February and March). This season the dates are: 24 November'24, 23 February'25 and 23 March'25. Should you require further information before you register, please call Russell on 0423352369 or Stuart on 0417877586.
Please note: our photographer(s) will be capturing moments at this event. You can let them know if you prefer not to be photographed directly but group and event shots will be shared via social media and possibly in print publications. We cannot guarantee that you will not appear in the background in some shots.
