Event description

We warmly welcome you to join us for an:

Interactive, Fun Sign Language Workshop

This incredibly popular and highly interactive workshop teaches approximately 50 everyday signs plus an additional 30 signs for nursery rhymes including Galumph, Kookaburra and the Rainbow Song. Usually you learn an extra 20 or so signs throughout the workshop.

Studies show that introducing sign language as early as possible for children with Down syndrome is highly beneficial for:

  • parents and siblings of children with Down syndrome or intellectual disability aged 0 up to 12 years
  • early childhood and primary school educators
  • grandparents and family friends

Speaker: Lisa Dodd

Presented by the amazing Lisa Dodd. Lisa is a qualified Key Word Sign presenter and Auslan (Australian sign language) tutor who has taught sign language for over 20 years. She has used sign language for the past 24 years ever since her son, Cameron, who has Down syndrome, was born. Lisa’s two daughters are also fluent in sign language and they all have been able to effectively communicate with Cameron from a very young age.

 NDIS ticketing
There needs to be funding in NDIS plan to claim for workshops - Parent Training. This needs to align with the participant goals on the current plan. The Plan Manager should be contacted if the NDIS plan is plan managed.
To book a ticket to attend workshop:

  • Click on Purchase the NDIS ticket (you won't need to pay at this point)
  • Select 'invoice' at the checkout
  • You will receive an email from us asking you to fill out a service agreement and return to DSNSW.
  • After the event you will receive an invoice from DSNSW.  We cannot invoice before an event as you cannot pre-pay for a service/workshop with NDIS funds.
  • You can then claim the cost from NDIS and then pay directly to DSNSW if self-managed or plan manager would pay directly to DSNSW if NDIA managed.

Note:  It's important that you return the service agreement to us, otherwise you will be charged for an out of pocket cost. If the service agreement is returned and the participant is invoiced then no funding allocated or insufficient funding, the expense to attend will need to be paid by the attendee as 'out of pocket' direct to Down Syndrome NSW.

NDIS Funded - A service agreement will need to be completed and emailed to us prior to the event. You will then be invoiced after the event has taken place. If no service agreement has been received, then you will be invoiced for an out-of-pocket cost.
