Event description

Ivy Tech Community College is excited to share with you the 2021 edition of

our “Doing the Dream” series. This year, the banquet will be held virtually as we continue to respond to the challenges posed by COVID-19. Since we can't break bread with you this year at our traditional in-person banquet, let's all gather virtually as we share food for thought and appetizers of inspiration. We sincerely hope you join us and take advantage of the program being planned for our 17th celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

With this year’s keynote speaker, we are excited to be able to introduce to many in the Hoosier state a dynamic figure with growing recognition on the national stage, a man who represents a new generation of leadership. Bakari Sellers first made history in 2006 when, at just 22 years old, he defeated a 26-year incumbent state representative to become the youngest member of the South Carolina state legislature and the youngest African American elected official in the nation.

As “Doing the Dream” seeks to honor Dr. King’s legacy of peace and social justice, he will talk about his personal commitment to these goals. He will weave the issues of diversity, equity, and belonging into a conversation about what they mean to college students and how we can impact change in our own communities.
