Dumplings with the Artist | Jemima Lucas
Description
Join us on Thursday, 12 November, from 6:30–9 PM for Dumplings with the Artist. Jemima Lucas will join Passage Artistic Director Marco Rinaldi in conversation about Jemima’s current exhibition, To drink and drown in pools of ourselves.
The evening begins at Passage with drinks on the balcony and an artist talk, followed by dinner at Chinese Noodle Restaurant downstairs. The talk is free and open to all. Dinner and drinks are ticketed at $30 + bf. Vegetarian options are available—please select the vegetarian ticket at checkout.
For Passage, Lucas has made her largest work to date. A suspended form is pierced by a spike; green liquid moves from the point of contact through storm drains laid across the gallery floor. Nearby, a propeller turns.
Drains, exhaust systems and other mechanisms usually remain at the edges of our attention, despite making shared urban life possible. Lucas brings them into the gallery as agents of exchange. The liquid might be evidence of a wound or a means of keeping the system alive. In this work, those possibilities cannot easily be separated.
