Otago Open Gardens

Otago Open Gardens is a self-booked garden tour of private and public gardens across the city, the Taieri and the Otago Peninsula. Design and book your own route by region, by budget. Travel to gardens on foot, by bike or by bus.

Every garden is graded by our team of curators, respected local gardeners: Dylan Norfield, Fran Rawling QSM and Mike Rawling, Peter Cooke and Anna Moore, Barbara and Gerry Wilkins, and Clinton Chambers and Rodney McDonald.

The grade is a guide to scale and significance, not a ranking.

• Diamond ($10), a garden of significance, the very top tier.

• Gold ($7), an outstanding garden, well worth the trip.

• Silver ($4), an established, characterful garden.

• Bronze (free), public and specialist gardens.

Gardens are open on Saturday and Sunday, 24-25 October, from 9AM-4PM.

When you purchase a ticket, you will receive each garden's location and details. For some Bronze (free) gardens it is required to reserve a ticket to help us track expected visitor numbers and enable us to keep you updated in case of cancellation or weather conditions.

Children aged 12 and under enter free, no ticket required. All children must be supervised by an adult at all times while visiting the gardens.

In the event of rain, gardens will remain open. Other than service dogs, pets are not permitted inside the gardens.
