Dual Screening: Delivering While Black & Breasts Not Required

Join us for 1-night only to see two Grand-Rapids documentaries come home to the big screen!! Filmmakers Amanda Rostic, Seth Thompson & Hannah Sullivan will co-host a shared screening of their films Delivery While Black (30 mins) and Breasts Not Required (32 mins) with an engaging Q&A afterward with cast/crew. Both films examine critical women's health issues highlighting October as Pregnancy & Infant Loss and Breast Cancer Awareness month.

For two years Breasts Not Required, along with its companion film Breasts Not Included, toured the globe screening at 48 festivals, earning 22 nominations, winning 12 awards, and television broadcasting in the UK. The films have been translated into Spanish and Italian, with screenings across the US, Europe & South America. The films have activated conversations, podcasts, panel discussions and social media attention highlighting issues specific to the risks of breast implants and the gap in legislation for informed consent. Furthering the conversation are moments of celebration as 8 women from Michigan share their stories about living flat after mastectomies. Delivering While Black (2023) has been shared with dozens of health organizations & conferences highlighting the stark and undeniable differences in maternal and infant outcomes between Black birthing people and White birthing people in the USA. Delivering While Black is a short documentary focused on Birth Justice in Grand Rapids, MI. These statistics are more than just numbers, these are real lives impacted and unjustly lost due to systemic and institutionalized racism. For 3 years, DWB has sparked conversations among health professionals, health systems, and racial justice & public health forums.
