E Ipo, My Love: Fundraiser Season
Event description
There’s all this history… but there’s also me and you.
E Ipo, My Love is the honest, heartfelt and at times hilarious story of a Māori and Pākehā couple in Aotearoa New Zealand. From first contact to final moments, a young couple navigate their relationship with the history of Aotearoa never too far behind them.
Inspired by historical accounts, interviews with couples, and their own experiences of being together, Tane Te Pakeke-Patterson (Kai Tahu, Kāti Hateatea) & Gisele Proud invite you to witness both the uncomfortable and the uplifting as they pull back the curtain on bicultural relationships in a nation with “one of the best race relations in the world”.
E Ipo, My Love first premiered in June 2025 at the Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch, New Zealand as part of a double bill season. The show was created through the Hagley Theatre School Six-Month Theatre Creation Course under the mentorship and direction of Dr Pedro Ilgenfritz.
"Real, honest, joyful, heartbreaking and deeply relevant to life in bi-cultural Aotearoa today" - Lisa Allan, Flat City Field Notes
