Event description

Did you know that your brain can't actually perceive a difference between reality and virtual reality (VR)?

ScootScool, an Australian Government Initiative, is taking advantage of this loophole in order to deliver e-scooter safety training at this event.  By exposing you to simulated hazards in VR, we will build up your skills when it comes to perceiving and avoiding those hazards in real life situations.

Use of e-mobility devices including e-scooters has grown rapidly across the world in recent years. In Queensland, legislation passed in 2018 allowed for a broad range of e-mobility devices and paved the way for the increased use we’re now seeing. Along with the increased use, has come harm. Queensland Insurance Surveillance Unit (QISU) reported 3,305 presentations to emergency departments in the four years between January 2019 and December 2023. This included over 360 children aged 15 or younger (RACQ, 2023). E-scooters operate in complex traffic environments where people walking, riding and now scooting are at increased risk of serious injuries and fatalities.

In response to these circumstances, this education program aims to equip riders with the best education possible to stay safe.

At these events, ScootScool educators will be delivering safety education through the use of VR, interactive displays, card games and presentations.  You will get the chance to virtually scoot through some hazards to see if your perception skills are as sharp as you think they are, as well as get a great level of exposure to the current rules and guideline when it comes to the law, age limits, speed limits, choosing your mobility method, safety equipment and vehicle features and much, much more.  Spots are limited so book now for your preferred session time, or come along to our next event, to be held at Good Shepherd School in Noosaville on December 7th.

ScootScool is proudly brought to you by Sidelines Traffic and Oggy Scooters in partnership. If you would like to receive training sessions in e-scooter safety, please reach out to hey@oggyscooters.com.au
