Design and Innovation Meetup
Event description
The Design and Innovation Meetup is back for September 2024, with an awesome session (if we do say so ourselves)
We are super-pleased to have the team from Ngāpeke Permaculture, and Ralf Schlothauer, talking about their work at the interface of design, community development and Kaitiakitanga.
Ngāpeke Permaculture is a social enterprise that applies iwi indigenous values and permaculture practice on their land, and through that, contribute to physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing of people (tāngata) and the natural environment (taiao)
Ralf is a process engineer from Germany who’s previous roles include 10 years as the CTO of Comvita, and who’s current roles include hobby boat building, including five home built wooden boats in the last few years.
The Ngāpeke team have been working with Ralf to design, prototype and build their own paddleboard and kayak. So how does a Māori land trust end up working with a process engineer on making watercraft from internet designs? You’ll have to come along to find out!
This promises to be a great session, a unique opportunity to hear about how design is being applied to a grass-roots community project, and see some of the vessels the team has made. There might even be a chance to make your own prototype...!
As ever, it’s also your chance to connect with like-minded creatives and innovators from around Tauranga and the Western Bay.
All are welcome, so grab some friends and come along! Make sure you RSVP, and we’ll see you there.
When: Wednesday 18th September, 5PM
Where: Priority One, 29 Grey St
