As Early Years educators, we know that Mathematics plays a key role in children’s development supporting them to make sense of their world by interpreting situations and helping them solve problems in their everyday lives. Whether that’s understanding time, sharing things with their friends, or counting during their play. Not only is Mathematics relevant for children’s current lives, but early mathematical understanding is strongly associated with later school achievement.
This is a full day Professional Development Workshop for Early Years Educators in all settings from Child Care, Kindergarten and Years P-2 as well as leaders and support staff. This is an opportunity to gain some excellent hands-on activities to take straight back to your classroom and insightful information to ensure we are all making Mathematics an enjoyable part of the curriculum for all.
It is important to get the foundations of mathematical development right and create enjoyment in the early years as we know that Mathematics can become a subject that is disliked as the years go on. Experience the sequencing and connections between the Australian Curriculum v9 and the QKLG and EYLF.

1. Learn practical strategies for the classroom from Mathematics consultants, aligned with current Early Years curriculum and guidelines.

2. Develop innovative and engaging practical applications to captivate young students in Mathematics.

3. Reflect on the progression and continuity of mathematical strands from Kindergarten to Year 2.

4. Gain insights into the mathematical thinking necessary to provide language and structure for representing ideas,
solving problems, modelling situations, and proving generalisations.

5. Explore the use of picture books in mathematics through practical activities designed to enhance understanding.

6. Experience the effectiveness of physical materials as tools to help early learners grasp fundamental mathematical concepts.

7. Observe first-hand the well-sequenced mathematical experiences that enhance young students’ communication skills.
