Earth Day Festival at the Palindrome

A Day of Action with Seed Planting, Concert & Environmental Justice

Saturday April 19th

1pm Seed Planting Ceremony

2pm Music & Speakers

This Earth Day, The Palindrome at Eaglemount Wine & Cider is hosting a Festival to inspire Port Townsend to connect with nature and community. On April 19, the Saturday before Earth Day, local environmental groups, native seed advocates, elders and musicians will gather to sing and plant seeds for the future of the Peace Movement.

The first Earth Day in 1970 galvanized 20 million Americans to participate in demonstrations and rallies across the United States, leading to important legislation and the creation of the EPA. Now, 55 years later, our leaders are gutting protections, selling off the National Forests and fueling climate change—all for profit.

It is time to rise up again! The Port Townsend community will gather at 1pm a sunflower seed planting and blessing of the land with songs and drums. Joined by singer Mama Earth as well as local environmental groups Local 20/20, The Jefferson Land Trust and Olympic Peninsula Prairies, we will plant sunflowers and sing for the Earth.

Then at 2pm, Abracadabra Trip will play a rock n’ soul concert with songs old and new that are sure to get everyone dancing. Throughout the concert, speakers will be featured, including Author & Conservationist Betsy Howell.

Here is Abracadabra Trip at the Rivertown Revival Festival:

There will be local environmental groups tabling and signing people up to get involved in conservation and Environmental Justice. There will also be a Tree Of Life, living sculpture in the Palindrome where citizens can write out and display their commitments to the Earth for the year.

“People usually think of the Earth Justice Movement as marches in the street, but first, we need to connect with the land and with each other,” says singer Mama Earth. “It is time to heal together in community, through dance and song, so we can have the strength to listen to the rivers running through our bodies and the spirit of the air in our lungs.”

Food will be available for purchase as well as Eaglemount Cider, Wine and Mead. Sponsored by Eaglemount Wine & Cider, Co-sponsored by the Production Alliance, KPTZ and Green Pod.

This event is open to the public and donations are requested for the artists ($5-$20 sliding scale)

Community are also encouraged to volunteer to support the festival and beautification of the land. There will be a volunteer work party April 19th from 10am-12pm to remove invasive ivy and restore natives to the forest around the Palindrome. Volunteers will receive a glass of cider and meal as well as free entry to the concert.
