Owyhee Earth Week: Stewardship project(s)

Celebrate Earth Week on this week-long traveling stewardship trip! Each day, we’ll be hosting a different stewardship project in the Owyhee. We’ll meet at the site for the day by 10 AM and have a short introduction to the project, complete with background and safety tips. After working away on our project for the day, we’ll meet back up at 3 PM for a natural history talk from a guest. Then, at 4 PM, folks are free to enjoy camp and explore as they like.

Monday, April 17: Owyhee Front
Fence removal and/or garbage removal

Tuesday, April 18: Adopt-a-Highway
Roadside garbage removal

Wednesday, April 19: Succor Creek State Natural Area
Asphalt removal, fence installation, sign installation and/or garbage removal
In partnership with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department via Adopt-A-Park

Thursday, April 20: Lake Owyhee State Park
Garbage removal and second project TBD
In partnership with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department via Adopt-A-Park

Friday, April 21: Lower Owyhee Canyon
Garbage and graffiti removal
In partnership with the SOLVE Oregon via Adopt-A-River

Saturday, April 22: Watchable Wildlife Area near Snively Hot Springs
Fence repair, weed pulling, reseeding, beaver protection

Sunday, April 23: Fault Knob hike and yoga in Lower Owyhee Canyon*
Yoga in the Wild Owyhee with Four Rivers Cultural Center and Museum

Highlights

Suggested gear

• Daypack
• Shelter (tarp or tent, stakes, ground cloth)
• Sleeping bag, sleeping pad

FAQ

• Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
  • Participants must be 10 years or older for all events except for the Adopt-A-Highway clean-up, which requires participants to be 18+.
• How much does camping cost? 
  • Camping is free at most locations, except at Lake Owyhee, which is $17 per site.
• Can I bring my dog?
  • For this trip, we ask that you leave your animals at home.
• Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
  • No, we will have a roster of the folks signed up.
• Can I bring my camper for this trip?
  • Due to the size of the campgrounds, we recommend that you camp in a tent or in your vehicle.
