Ever wondered what it's like to be an ecological consultant or how you might get into this varied and interesting industry?  

Ecological consulting is a career that provides a diversity of options for employment and work focus.  It can involve being a specialist or a generalist, working for a large company or as a sole operator with options to explore. This can be an exciting and daunting prospect, particularly if you’re just starting out in your career or deciding on your next step.

Join us for an evening with presentations and Q&A from two established ecological consultants, James Garden and Angela Simms who will share with us their career journey so far, what their day to day work is like, and some tips and tricks of getting into the industry and maintaining/evolving your skillsets. James Garden is a Principal Ecologist and Director with more than 15 years experience. James treads the line between field ecology, native vegetation assessment and IT. His dual interests and expertise have led him to develop web-based tools for ecologists and become a specialist in habitat connectivity. Angela Simms is a Senior Terrestrial Ecologist and herpetologist with over 10 years' experience working in environmental spaces.

There will be plenty of time for questions with our presenters, other established consultants and industry experts after the presentations to facilitate further discussions and networking opportunities. Come along and meet others who are ecology-curious!

This event is for students, graduates and early careers folk who are curious about a career in ecological consulting or anyone interested in building your career in this field. Come along also if you’re an established ecological consultant wanting to support the next generation of ecologists!

Time: 6pm: Arrival.  6.15-7.15pm: presentations and Q&A, followed by networking, mingling and the option to purchase a meal.
