Event description

Eco-dyeing with Geri Hayden

Eco-dyeing with Geri Hayden is a hands-on workshop grounded in Noongar cultural knowledge and sustainable practice. Participants will explore the traditional use of native plants such as eucalyptus, acacia, and marri bark to create natural dyes, guided by Aunty Geri’s deep connection to Country and ancestral teachings. Once used to dye kangaroo skins and fishing nets, these plant-based techniques are now being revitalised through a blend of cultural memory and artistic expression.

Each dyed textile piece your child creates in this workshop carries a sense of place and story, reflecting a respectful relationship with the land. More than a creative activity, eco-dyeing is an invitation to connect with culture, history, and sustainability through the colours of Country.
