Eco-Living in Australia: Lessons for a Resilient Future

Across Australia, people are already experimenting with different ways of living — from ecovillages and cohousing to intentional communities, land-sharing and regenerative settlements.

At a time of housing shortages, rising living costs, climate disruption and growing social disconnection, could these communities offer practical pathways towards a more resilient future?

Join the Australian Eco-Living Organisations Network (AEON) for a Citizen COP conversation exploring who is already creating and living in these alternative models, what they can teach us, and why many remain difficult to establish within Australia’s current planning, finance and regulatory systems.

AEON believes cooperative and regenerative settlements are not fringe experiments, but tested forms of housing and social infrastructure that can contribute to greater housing diversity, shared resources, stronger community connections and lower-impact living.

Come and discover the people and projects already demonstrating alternatives — and explore what needs to change for eco-living to become a recognised, accessible and viable part of Australia’s housing future.

This is a free online session by the Australian Eco-Living Organisations Network.

About Citizen COP Australia

Citizen COP Australia is a decentralised, people-powered movement running alongside the global COPs in 2026. Enabled by People For Nature, but intentionally independent and distributed, Citizen COP invites communities, organisations, schools, businesses, artists, and local groups across Australia to host their own events during the COP period. Rather than a single central event, Citizen COP is a nationwide network of conversations, workshops, and actions that bring global climate and nature discussions into local communities. It connects people to science, solutions, and each other, strengthening civic engagement and ensuring citizen voices contribute to Australia’s climate and nature conversations.
