Event description

Join us for an introductory session on the role of health economic evaluation in implementation science. This presentation is the first in a two-part series delivered by Academy Co-Lead Dr Zoe Szewczyk and will provide a practical foundation for researchers and clinicians looking to integrate economic evaluation into their work. Part 1 will assist attendees to:

  • Develop an understanding of the role and value of health economic evaluation in implementation science
  • Improve commissioning of health economic evaluation in implementation science, including identifying if, and when, to commission an economic evaluation.
  • Outline “first steps” to including an economic evaluation in a program of work.

This presentation will build upon the content delivered by Academy Fellow Dr Marina Pinheiro in late 2024. If you have time, we encourage you to watch this presentation before the April Seminar!

Dr Zoe Szewczyk has a BA (Nutrition and Dietetics) a PhD (Health Economics) and is a Research Fellow in the Prevention Research Collaboration, Sydney School of Public Health. Prior to joining The University of Sydney Dr Szewczyk worked as a manager in the national Health Economics and Social Policy team at Deloitte, and as a Health Research Economist at the Hunter Medical Research Institute. Dr Szewczyk's area of research is health economic evaluation of health services interventions, their implementation, and scale-up.

Since joining The University of Sydney in April 2023, Dr Szewczyk has led the most comprehensive program evaluation of the world-first scaled-up chronic disease prevention telehealth program, the Get Healthy Service, in partnership with the NSW Ministry of Health. Dr Szewczyk is also leading the economic evaluation of Choose to Move, a scaled falls and loneliness prevention intervention delivered in Canada, in partnership with the Active Aging Research Team, University of British Columbia. Dr Szewczyk is also working closely with the Sydney Dental School on several projects and has been invited to deliver “Introduction to Health Economics” lectures at four separate research groups with >70 in person attendees.
