Event description
Ecovineyards is coming to Tasmania!
Join Agroecologist/Viticulturist Dr Mary Retallack from Retallack Viticulture and Ecology for a full day of information and practical activities, including:
An introduction to living vineyards, agroecology for wine grape growing (and farming for yeasts)
Predatory arthropods, microbats, insectivorous and raptor birds of prey and how to attract, monitor and look after them
The plant health pyramid and the importance of grapevine nutrient integrity to combat pests and diseases without a chemical first approach
Biocontrol of insect pests (LBAM, vine moth, scale, mealybug, millipedes, mites)
Native insectary plants, how to select and incorporate them in the vineyard and the concept of agricultural art
We will also head out into the vineyard and demonstrate leaf sap testing and the relationship between brix and plant health, and do an arthropod assessment and identification using different non-destructive netting techniques.
