Description

Ecstatic Dance 25th Birthday Bash Weekend Celebration!!!

Kalani is honored to celebrate 25 years of Ecstatic Dance, a practice that has grown from its roots here at Kalani on Hawaiʻi Island into a worldwide movement of embodied expression, healing, and connection. For a quarter century, this community ritual has invited thousands of people to move beyond words, rediscover themselves through dance, and experience the profound joy of authentic presence.

Join us November 13–15th for a weekend honoring the past, present, and future of Ecstatic Dance. Together we’ll celebrate the facilitators, musicians, visionaries, and dancers who helped shape this living tradition into what it is today.

Throughout the weekend, you’ll enjoy daily Ecstatic Dances, contact improv, workshops, yoga and movement classes, sound baths, and panel discussions featuring both the  original creators of Ecstatic Dance and current facilitators sharing stories, wisdom, and the evolution of this global movement. There will also be opportunities to connect with community, reflect on the legacy of the practice, and dance into its next chapter.

Whether you’ve been dancing for decades or are stepping onto the dance floor for the very first time, this anniversary celebration welcomes you exactly as you are.

FAQs

  • Is this a substance use free event?

Yes, Ecstatic Dance was originally created as a drug-free practice. In a nonverbal space especially, it’s important that participants are acting with integrity while remaining safe, sane, consensual, and considerate of the people around them.

  • Can I bring my children?

Yes! Keiki (children) are more than welcome to share the space. It is of the utmost importance that parents or guardians supervise their children at all times throughout the event, as there will not be a designated keiki area or childcare available. We appreciate your help in creating a safe, enjoyable environment for everyone.

  • How can I volunteer?

Interested in volunteering in exchange for a free ticket? We’d love to hear from you! Volunteer opportunities are available while positions last. Please reach out to us at (808) 756-9530 to learn more.

  • Camping Information

Camping passes are priced per person, and showers are not included. Restrooms and fresh drinking water are available at the Blue Moon Room and Hale Aloha throughout the weekend.

To help preserve the camping area, vehicles are not permitted in the campsites. When you arrive, you’re welcome to pull in briefly to unload your gear before moving your vehicle to the designated parking areas.

Planning to car camp? Be sure to purchase a Car Camping Pass, as your vehicle will be marked upon entry and directed to the appropriate area.

For everyone’s safety, open flames of any kind are prohibited. This includes campfires, fire pits, charcoal grills, and gas grills.

  • What are the guidelines?

There is no talking in the dance space. This includes the sidelines and bathroom areas. We invite you to discover playful, creative, and heartfelt ways to communicate without words. Let your body language do the talking.

Shoes are not permitted on the dance floor unless required for a medical reason. Bare feet help protect both our dancers’ toes and the dance floor itself.

Photography and videography are not permitted in the dance space. The presence of a camera can create pressure or performance, taking away from the magic of being fully present in the moment.

Please ask for consent and be mindful of others’ space. When dancing with someone, look for mutual enthusiasm through shared eye contact, body language, and touch. If someone declines, simply honor their “no” with kindness and continue your dance. We all share this space, so be aware of how much room you’re taking up, especially if your movement is expansive or unpredictable.

No smoking or burning of any kind is permitted in the dance space or anywhere on the property. This includes cigarettes, vapes, sage, palo santo, incense, or any other smokable or burnable materials. We want everyone to breathe easy.

Please help care for this beautiful space. We practice a pack-in, pack-out philosophy. Leave the space better than you found it, and if something needs attention, refilling, or replacing, let a volunteer or staff member know. Please do not climb, hang, or swing from the dance structure.

Children are welcome and must remain within close proximity and eyesight of their parent or guardian at all times.

Dogs and other pets are not permitted at the event. Please do not leave animals tied to trees, in vehicles, or elsewhere on the property. We kindly ask that all furry and feathered friends stay home for the weekend.

  • I'm coming from off Island. Is there anything I should know?

We recommend bringing reef-safe sunscreen, an umbrella or light rain jacket, non-toxic bug spray, and comfortable shoes for exploring the property and surrounding area. Hawaiʻi’s weather can change quickly, so it’s always a good idea to come prepared! Drive slow, throw shakas and smiles, embody aloha and don't feed the pigs 🐽
