The discussion will dive into an analysis of populist rhetoric by politicians as it relates to the justification of democratic backsliding. Simarmata’s research focuses on political communication, particularly how digital platforms, automation, and the hybrid media system reshape strategies of attack politics, drive the circulation of disinformation, and influence democratic competition.
