Step into the realm of culinary innovation as we invite you to explore the true capabilities of AI in the culinary universe on Saturday 9th September (7pm-10pm), Sunday 10th September (12:30pm-3:30pm) and Saturday 16th September (7pm-10pm) at this very special, one-off event for our Kitchen Takeover VIPs.
For the first time ever in New Zealand, we will create an unforgettable gastronomic showdown of human ingenuity against machine brilliance—as our Kitchen Takeover Executive Chef, Shane Yardley, squares off against ChatGPT in a tantalising six course edible experience, all at a secret Tauranga location.
Get ready to indulge your senses and be part of this thrilling experiment that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in the world of gastronomy and new technologies. Our chef and ChatGPT will each create a starter, main and dessert for you to enjoy. At the end of the dining experience, we will ask you to judge your favourite courses and then reveal the truth behind the dishes. Who will win our clash of chef vs. circuit board?
But here is where it gets interesting. We asked YOU, our Kitchen Takeover foodies, to select three ingredients for the starter, main course, and dessert dishes in which they must create dishes from.

The Chef
Shane Yardley is a chef with platefuls of experience. Having spent the first part of his career training in some of the world’s most renowned restaurants, he did a long stint as Simon Gault’s right-hand man. He has now returned to New Zealand as a tutor at Toi Ohomai teaching the next generation how to cook like a pro. Career highlights include; Head Chef of Euro, Fish and a guest judge on MasterChef. Shane ensures we consistently bring our foodies exceptional and unique food experiences.
The AI
ChatGPT is an AI language model that can engage in conversations and provide information on various topics. In the culinary world, it can be a valuable tool for recipe suggestions, cooking tips, and answering food-related questions. With its vast knowledge and ability to understand context, ChatGPT can offer culinary inspiration and guidance, which is how we will generate the recipes you are going to enjoy.

What are the dates and times?
Dinner:

How much?
Tickets cost $199pp. This includes six courses plus a welcome cocktail or mocktail, plus a small booking fee.
We use Humanitix for our ticket bookings - all their profits fund education programmes for disadvantaged children to help close the education gap.
Are drinks included?
The price includes a welcome cocktail or mocktail. You then have the option to purchase drinks as you go from our fully stocked bar with all the unusual suspects - wine, beer, soft drinks, mocktails, cocktails and more.
Who is it for?
Wild-at-heart foodies on the hunt for a ‘big city’ style food adventure. Think the secrecy of an East London supper club mixed with the gastronomy of a top Melbourne laneway eatery and the creativity of a Copenhagen restaurant.
What will you eat?
Using three ingredients chosen by our Kitchen Takeover VIPs. You will indulge in six courses of fine dining innovation curated by Shane Yardley and ChatGPT who will each create a starter, main and dessert for you to enjoy. The dishes will be revealed upon arrival.
Can we cater for dietary requirements?
We can ONLY cater for Gluten Free only. We cannot cater for any other specific requirements as this edible adventure has been carefully crafted and so we are limited in the changes that can be made. But keep your eyes peeled for events throughout the remainder of the year that suits your needs.
Do I sit alone or communally?
Diners will be sat on their own tables for this event.
Where and when will it be?
A secret location in Tauranga within 5 minutes of Tauranga CBD.
How does the secret location work?
The location is revealed two hours prior by text and email. The set menu will be announced when you arrive.
