Edible Weed Walk Workshop
Event description
Join us for a fascinating walk with Adam from Very Edible Gardens along a section of Kororoit Creek and learn about the free, edible, and nutritious urban weed species right in your backyard!
Most common urban weed species of Melbourne are edible and can provide valuable and nutritious fresh food. Learn to enjoy dandelion, sow thistle, mallow, amaranth, wild onions, stinging nettle and many more (with seasonal variation). Most have interesting medical and cultural traditions. Learn too about some of the ecological uses of weeds as soil improvers, soil indicators and compost additives. (See also Adam’s popular weed hunting book The Weed Forager’s Handbook.)
We will meet at Kororoit Creek Neighbourhood house at 1.00pm and will then walk along a portion of the Kororoit Creek Trail. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes, a hat, sunscreen, a rain jacket/umbrella in case of light rain, and bring a water bottle.
In the case of bad weather, the event may be replaced by an indoor presentation at Kororoit Creek Neighbourhood House.
