WHO? We bring together mycologists (scientists who study Kingdom Fungi), foragers, artists, and the public (YOU!) to experience the diverse world of Kingdom Fungi in order to grow and strengthen local connections to Scottish wildlife. No prior knowledge required - curiosity encouraged!
WHAT? A weekend full of presentations, workshops, and forays led by leaders in the field and the community, and a market bustling with local vendors and artists - as well as good food and conversation.
WHERE? In the Nucleus Building - an award-winning, fully accessible education hub opened in 2022. Forays will venture into surrounding woodlands - notably, Blackford Hill and Craigmillar Castle Park.
WHY? In many other countries around the world, fungi festivals have begun popping up and expanding in numbers and size - resulting in a boom in popular mycology, collaborative myco-projects, and innovative research. Scotland - home to a wide variety of fungi and lichen, innovative mycological research, and creative ways of unveiling the mysteries of Kingdom Fungi through art and storytelling - has the potential to enter the conversation and strengthen it's own myco-community through the founding of the Edinburgh Fungi Festival.
