Event description

The Centre for Decent Work and Industry and Student Success Journal welcomes you to a co-hosted event based on the special issue of the Journal published in December 2023.

Research has repeatedly shown that quality of instruction and positive student–faculty interaction are significant contributors to student success and wellbeing in higher education. However, as additional workload expectations and resource constraints continue to impact higher education globally, there are growing concerns about stress, workload, burnout and intention to leave academia which have significant implications for the wellbeing of both students and educators. In this symposium based on the December 2023 special issue of Student Success Journal, educators from Australia, the US and New Zealand present research exploring the vital contribution of educator wellbeing to student success, and approaches to improving it.

Sessions include:

  • Enhancing Novice Educator Confidence to Teach Synchronously Online During the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • I Need You To Survive: Black Women Resisting White Supremacy Culture for Faculty and Student Wellbeing
  • Allegations, Abuse and Discrimination: Using Student Evaluation of Teaching Surveys to Support Student and Educator Wellbeing
  • Peer-supported Teaching Practice: Embodying a Relational, Practice-Led Approach to Enhancing Educator Wellbeing and Practice
  • Delivering Quality WIL Without Compromising Wellbeing: Exploring Staff and Student Wellbeing in a WIL Context Through the Lens of Organisational Health
  • Metaphors of University Educators: The Expectation Gap with Implications for Educator Wellbeing
  • Living at Work: Teaching Online During the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • and, Co-Creating a Health and Wellbeing Strategy for Students and Staff.
