    Event description

    This NESA ACCREDITED twilightĀ workshop is designed for teachers new to teaching HSC Earth and Environmental ScienceĀ plus those who would like to refamiliarise themselves with the content, background theory and make connections across the different Inquiry Questions of Module 5: Earth's Processes,Ā in the HSC Earth and Environmental Science syllabus. Connections will also be made with other modules.Ā We will be unpacking:

    • Development of the Biosphere
    • Changes in the Geosphere, Atmosphere and Hydrosphere
    • Plate Tectonic Supercycle
    • Fossil Formation and Stratigraphy

    In the process, teachers will be acquiring appropriate and varied pedagogies and determining the relevant 'assumed knowledge' from the Year 11 syllabus.

    NESA ACCREDITATION

    Completing HSC EES Module 5: Earth's Processes will contribute 2 hours of NSWĀ Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of DeliveryĀ and Assessment of NSW Curriculum/EYLF addressing Standard Descriptor(s) 2.1.2Ā from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining ProficientĀ Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

    A Certificate of Completion will be sent to Graduate Teachers for their evidence.

    PRESENTER

    Workshop Delivered by Rob Mahon

    Rob Mahon is a passionate practitioner of secondary science teaching with over 30 years experience. When Earth and Environmental Science was first launched in NSW for 2000, he put his Earth Science background to good use and began writing an EES prac manual, which morphed into cowriting the Spotlight textbook. When EES was launched as an ACARA syllabus for 2018, Rob worked with David Heffernan to revise and rewrite their textbook to ensure that teachers (many without a background in this field) would have a tailored resource to support them when the course commenced nationally. Having previously specialised as a school Leader of Pedagogy, he brings this focus to his classroom activities, along with as much fun and music as he can fit in. Rob is an experienced HSC marker and uses this expertise to regularly empower his students to exceed their predicted growth in EES.
