Effective strategies to support bullying and online safety of people on the spectrum

Professional Development In Focus Workshop

The social characteristics of autism mean people on the spectrum are more likely to experience bullying. The ever-changing landscape of technology and social interaction via social media add an extra layer of complexity to social interactions and increases exposure to the threat of online bullying. This workshop uses the Bully Defence Strategy from iMsocial program as a basis to discuss strategies that help people on the spectrum understand and approach different aspects of bullying and cyber safety such as

  • Identifying true and hoax friends
  • Identifying different types of bullying and responses to them
  • Understanding Protective behaviours
  • Understanding Cyber safe practices

Suitable for professionals supporting individuals of all ages.

All participants will receive a certificate with the workshop title, the number of hours and will state that the training links to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (where appropriate).

If this workshop is full, please contact Emma Bennett on ebennett@autismsa.org.au.

Professional Workshops are designed for any individuals who support an individual on the autism spectrum on a professional or volunteer basis. The workshops provide examples and strategies that are relevant for professionals.
