Working with Anxiety with Barry Strmelj

The AIEFT is excited to be hosting ‘Emotion Focused Therapy in Action’, a workshop series run by Barry Strmelj. These workshops are suitable for practitioners with a background in EFT training (at least EFT Level 1) and who utilise, or are looking to incorporate EFT into their work with clients.

Anxiety can be a common but debilitating issue for clients seeking help. In this workshop we will look at how to work with anxiety using emotion-focused therapy. This will include how we understand and formulate anxiety from an EFT perspective and how developing a healing therapeutic relationship helps enhance clients self-acceptance and affect regulation capacities to support coping with life’s challenges and strengthen a vulnerable self. In particular, the workshop will look at how using chairwork to work with anxiety and worry splits, where one part of self scares, catastrophises, and worries another part of self, can undo the negative self treatment that interrupts, dismisses and constricts emotional experience and feelings. This allows primary painful feelings and underlying core needs to emerge that are necessary for healing to occur, which are often associated with early attachment and relational injuries.

Please note: Each workshop requires a minimum of 5 participants to proceed. If minimum numbers are not reached, the session may be rescheduled or cancelled, and participants will be notified in advance.
