It’s field trip time! Join EJC downtown for the west coast premiere of Jen Silverman's latest thriller, Spain. Produced by Profile Theatre, this a grand cross-disciplinary spectacle features live musicians and singers from Portland Opera, 45th Parallel Universe, and Metropolitan Youth Symphony.
Step into a slippery world where the line between truth and fiction is all in the packaging. It’s 1936, and a pair of passionate filmmakers have landed their next big project: a sweeping Spanish Civil War film with the potential to change American hearts and minds. It just happens to be bankrolled by the KGB. SPAIN by Jen Silverman is a seductive and tense thriller about the power of art to change the world – for better and for worse.

About the playwright
Jen Silverman
Jen Silverman is a multi-hyphenate playwright, poet, and novelist whose work has been produced nationally and internationally, on and off Broadway. Their plays balance lyricism with grounded sincerity, and highlight the power of hope in seemingly hopeless times. Silverman is a Guggenheim Fellow, a three-time MacDowell Fellow, and recipient of the Yale Drama Series Award. Their play The Roommate ran on Broadway with Mia Farrow and Pattie LuPone in the leading roles.

- Where do we meet?
The play will take place at The Ellyn Bye Studio at The Armory, 128 NW 11th Ave, in downtown Portland. We will meet in the lobby outside the theatre no later than 1:45pm.
- How do we get there?
We will be meeting at the theatre in downtown Portland - not at EJC! The theatre is located on the Portland Streetcar line and within 2 blocks of the 77 and 20 bus. Participants who require transportation support should reach out to info@ejcpdx.org
- What if I can't go on the 25th?
The play runs October 22-November 8, 2026. If you are interested in attending the show but are unable to join us on the 25th, consider attending for EJC night on Thursday, Nov 5. Use discount code EJCSPAIN10 for 10% off tickets.
