Elbows

a collective reading and stitching series

SOLD OUT but for expressions of interest join the waitlist or email: elbows.textiles@gmail.com

Instagram @elbows.textiles

First date: 24 June, 2026

Then every last Wednesday of the month.

Description:

Gather together monthly to stitch, read and chat about embroidery, textiles and the ideas shaping contemporary textile practice.

Each month, participants receive a short piece to read focused on textile art and making. Working slowly alongside one another, we’ll develop stitch samplers or longer-form embroidery projects, while chatting about the histories, ideas and creative approaches that inform textiles.

Who is it for?

People who love textiles and want to talk about them and create them amongst like-minded people!

Elbows is for artists, embroiderers and curious makers interested in slow stitching and thoughtful conversation. No embroidery experience necessary. Best suited to adults.

PLEASE NOTE

This course is funded by a grant from the University of Wollongong and attendance is free but you must fill in an expression of interest as positions are limited and we want to make sure those attending are able to make the full course! This is not to say you have to have an qualifications but just to make sure the spots go to really keen people :) Please enter the code FORM at check out to get a ticket and fill in the EOI form.

What to expect:

  • A new digital reading each month

  • A material kit to keep

  • Slow stitching techniques and guided making

  • Space for conversation and experimentation

In December, we’ll mark the conclusion of the series with a public studio showing of works, samplers and stitched experiments developed through the program.
