Élisabeth - Students’ Open Rehearsal
Event description
In the lead-up to their Élisabeth concerts, HIP Company is pleased to invite secondary and tertiary music and dance students to an open rehearsal and Q&A with the artists, made possible by the support of the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries in Western Australia.
HIP Company is an Early Music ensemble from Perth, Western Australia, specialising in the historically informed performance (‘HIP’) of seventeenth and eighteenth century music. In this groundbreaking new production, music by French Baroque composer Élisabeth Claude Jacquet de la Guerre will be performed on replicas of historical instruments from the time (soprano, Baroque violin and flute, viola da gamba, and harpsichord), and combined with contemporary Neo-Baroque dance choreographed by renowned French ballerina, Claire Voss.
De la Guerre (1665 - 1729) was a virtuoso harpsichordist and one of few well-known female composers of her time. She performed for Louis XIV at Versailles at age 5, eventually becoming a celebrated musician in his court. The centrepiece of Élisabeth is a cantata depicting a story from Ancient Greek L’Isle de Délos (The Isle of Delos).
The session, from 6.30-8.30pm, incorporates observing a rehearsal from 6.30-8.00pm, with a Q&A session to follow.
Doors open at 6.15pm, and seating is unreserved.
