ELRC Seminar on Nationality in the context of climate change and disasters: Lessons from Haiti and Assam
Description
Climate-related hazards have triggered displacement within states and across borders, but the nexus between disaster response, displacement and nationality has not been adequately addressed in international law and policy responses.
Join Aashish Yadav, a PhD Candidate and Research Assistant at the Peter McMullin Research Centre on Statelessness, Melbourne Law School, as he explains how displacement in the context of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and the annual floods in Assam, India have seriously impacted nationality status and associated human rights.
This seminar is co-hosted with Dr Christoph Sperfeldt’s Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award on ‘Universal Legal Identity in the Sustainable Development Goals’ (project number DE240100636).
