Embracing Our Difference: A Curiosity-Based Conversation
Event description
This event aims to provide an online safe space for staff and students at QUB to have open and honest curiosity-based conversation on how as a community we can celebrate and embrace difference in order to enrich our understanding of difference and foster a rich sense of belonging for staff and students here at Queen’s.
A WEBINAR LINK WILL BE SENT TO PARTICIPANTS AHEAD OF THE EVENT.
The University-wide panel will comprise
Dr Gift Sotonye Frank (Law) and Dr Eiman Al Meguid (MDBS) acting as Chairs.
Panel Members will be
Dr Sanmi Olade from the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Dr Yecid Ortega from the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work
Ms Nowran Nasr a third year Biomedical Science Student
Nursing student to be arranged by Barry
The Programme will be
13-13-15 Introduction to notable Black Scholars by Gift and Eiman (chosen by the QUB Black Scholars Network)
13-15-13.30 Panel members will introduce themselves and their motivations for participating
13.30-14.30 Discussion on “Embracing Our Differences” and employing curiosity about one anothers differences as a theme.
Questions proposed for discussion are as follows
- How can we have a curiosity-based conversation that can help in embracing our differences at Queen's University
2. What are the practical steps that can bring about more curiosity-based conversation that facilitate embracing our differences
3. What are challenges of promoting inclusivity and how can you overcome them.
4. If you could change one thing in your community to promote inclusion, what would it be?
This is an interdisciplinary event with contributions from the MHLS, AHSS and EPS Faculties
