Join us for an unforgettable afternoon as the Sydney Chamber Music Institute takes its first bow, in the intimate Studio at ACO on the Pier, a Steinway grand at its heart, with sweeping views across Sydney Harbour as the backdrop.
Simon Cobcroft, Adele Ohki and Alexander Yau open with the grandeur of Beethoven's Archduke Trio. The Rising Stars Trio brings youthful brilliance to Uhl. And in a moment years in the making, the stunning young soloists who first captivated audiences at our pop-up concerts now come together as two string quartets, performing the contrasting worlds of Borodin and Bacewicz at the highest level. The program builds to a thrilling finale, a combined performance of Brahms' Sextet No. 1, uniting faculty and students in one radiant, unforgettable close.
This is more than a concert, it's a glimpse into the future of chamber music in Sydney, and the beginning of something special.

Simon Cobcroft, Cello
Simon Cobcroft is Associate Principal Cello with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, following a decade as Principal Cello with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium and the Australian National Academy of Music, he has appeared as guest principal with orchestras including the London Philharmonia and the Bournemouth Symphony, and as concerto soloist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Australian String Quartet and Tinalley Quartet, among others. He is a founding member of the Lyrebird Trio, winner of the Piano Trio and Audience prizes at the 2013 Asia Pacific Chamber Music Competition, and currently serves as Artistic Director of the Coriole Chamber Music Festival.

Adele Ohki, Violin
Adele Ohki is a Sydney-based violinist, educator and founder of the Sydney Chamber Music Institute. Trained at the Australian National Academy of Music, Northwestern University, and Eastman School of Music, her performance credits include the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Australian Haydn Orchestra, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, and Boston Opera and Ballet Orchestra, among others. A dedicated music educator, she has led chamber music and string programs at leading Sydney schools, and founded SCMI to give exceptional young musicians the chance to perform chamber music at the highest level alongside professional colleagues.

Alexander Yau, Piano
Alexander Yau is an Australian pianist, chamber musician and conductor known for a wide-ranging repertoire and versatility as a soloist and collaborator. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with first-class honours, he completed his Master's at The Juilliard School under Professor Matti Raekallio. His concerto appearances include the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Conservatorium Orchestra, and he has performed at festivals and venues across the US, Europe and Asia, including Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. He currently holds roles as a collaborative pianist at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and with Opera Australia.

James Eccles, Viola
James Eccles is a Sydney-based violist who has performed with many of Australia's leading ensembles, including the Australian Haydn Ensemble, Pinchgut Opera, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Sydney Dance Company, and as Principal Viola with Sydney Philharmonia Choirs. One of the first full-time musicians at the Australian National Academy of Music, he is also a passionate advocate for new Australian music, having premiered and commissioned numerous works with ensembles such as Ensemble Offspring and as co-director of The Noise string quartet. James holds a Master of Arts in Classical String Performance and a Graduate Diploma in Arts Management.
