Emerging Artist Concert Series

ACROSS THE AGES

From J.S. Bach to the premiere of two new piano works by Oscar Dunn-Luck, pianists Sophie Chen and Oscar Dunn-Luck take us on a musical journey spanning centuries and styles.

The program brings together Haydn, Brahms, Liszt and Rachmaninoff with lesser-known works by Granados, Kitty Parker, Randy Newman and Woody Goss, culminating in the premiere of two new works by Oscar.

The concert continues the close connection between the Emerging Artist Concert Series and the Pascoe Awards, presented by Highlands Music Collective in memory of Mrs Eva Pascoe and Dr Timothy Pascoe AM. Every recipient of the Eva Pascoe Award — a $3,000 scholarship with performance opportunities and mentoring from HMC — has previously performed in the Emerging Artist Concert Series. The Pascoes were donors to the EAC Series.

Since 2025, EACS has offered one concert each year to a Pascoe Awards participant who would benefit from further performance opportunities. Oscar was selected for this opportunity in 2025 and invited Sophie, a fellow Pascoe Awards participant, to join him for this concert.

Oscar Dunn-Luck is a pianist, cellist, percussionist and composer whose works have been performed by the Southern Highlands Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, Highlands Sinfonia and Highlands Music Collective.

Sophie Chen received her A.Mus.A in piano in 2024, achieving the AMEB Gold Award after six years of study with Sabina Madden. She is now studying for a Bachelor of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium with Natalia Ricci, and is also an advanced violinist and composer.

Sharing the Joy of Music in the Community

InspireMusicAust is a not-for-profit that nurtures emerging classical, jazz, and world musicians by creating performance opportunities in the community. InspireMusicAust is committed to increasing accessibility to classical, jazz and world music within the community. Our concerts are often scheduled at a time of day, making them available for those who find concerts at night difficult. We partner with venues to provide accessible programs to all within the community, regardless of their economic situation. To facilitate this, many of our concerts are entry by donation. However, we strongly encourage those who can donate to do so generously to help support our commitment to paying performers following the Musicians Union of Australia and awards.

Currently, our major program is the EMERGING CONCERT ARTISTS SERIES, which features outstanding young performers under 26. The musicians are given the freedom to curate, present, and perform a program in multiple venues, which helps create a performance progression path for emerging artists. In some concerts, the emerging artists work with established performers; in others, they pair up together. Other concerts we run include the annual MUSIC FOR MEDICINE concert, which features emerging artists in performance with a leading Australian artist at Wollongong Town Hal, with all profits going to a charity committed to the health and well-being of those in need. We also run CONCERTS ACROSS THE LAWN: A Musical Experience in Nature. As young artists progress, we offer to help them set up concerts involving a paid entry in different locations.
