EmpowerHER: Empowering Women with Epilepsy

Join us for an unforgettable day of inspiration, knowledge, and community at EmpowerHER (Health, Epilepsy, Resources), an epilepsy conference centered around the experiences of women living with epilepsy at various stages of life. Presented by Epilepsy Action Australia, Australian Women with Epilepsy, and the University of Queensland, this event aims to empower women with epilepsy through expert insights, personal stories, and meaningful connections.

Venue and Attendance:

This conference will be hosted in Brisbane for in-person attendees, providing the opportunity for face-to-face interactions and networking. For those unable to attend in person, the event will also be livestreamed across Australia, allowing access to valuable content and discussions from anywhere in the country.

Program Highlights

• Inspirational Stories: Hear from two remarkable women with epilepsy, Mindy Russell and Malinda Hayward, as they share their journeys and triumphs.

• Keynote Address: Associate Professor Lata Vadlamudi will deliver an overview of the intricate relationship between hormones, antiseizure medication, and epilepsy over the lifespan of women living with epilepsy.

• Experts Panel Discussion: Dive deep into topics such as puberty, pregnancy, menopause, and beyond with a distinguished panel of medical professionals, including neurologists, epileptologists, an endocrinologist, a psychiatrist, and an epilepsy nurse specialist. Facilitated by Prof. Lata Vadlamudi, this session will provide valuable insights into family planning, pregnancy, and more.

• Lived Experience Panel: Facilitator Carol Ireland will guide a session where women with epilepsy from different life stages share their experiences and answer your questions. This intimate setting allows for the exchange of invaluable personal insights and practical tips.

• Peer Networking: In person attendees have the opportunity to connect with others through facilitated networking sessions led by Australian Women with Epilepsy. This is your chance to meet and speak with other women living with epilepsy.

This conference is for women with epilepsy, and they will be given priority for in-person tickets as this is not targeting professionals.
