Empowering Communities through Place Based Capital – Key learnings
How can communities take control of their own economic development by reshaping the flow of capital?
Join us for an insightful webinar presented by Ethical Fields and the Place Based Capital Network, where we share our learnings from the Place Based Capital Program and explore how Australian communities can take charge of their local economic development by changing the way capital is owned, controlled, used and invested.
Over the past 16 months, 20 communities and partners from across Australia joined the Place Based Capital Network, embarking on a journey to advance place-based capital and local asset ownership. Place Based Capital is a model and movement aimed at creating local capital systems that are grounded in place, focused on people, and driven by local action, ownership and control. Using Place Based Capital, communities can:
- identify and generate local funding and capital sources for community needs
- access and manage aligned funding and finance for development
- invest in projects that meet their needs like affordable housing and local businesses
- buy and manage local assets like property, renewable energy and infrastructure
- purposefully use local assets in ways that better support them
- pool money to achieve more collectively
- build financial reserves for emergencies and large-scale projects
Facilitated by Ethical Fields, members of the place based capital network travelled together through a structured process for more than a year to expand their knowledge of capital systems and place based capital, identify their local capital needs and opportunities and gather over 100 place based capital solutions that could potentially meet these needs.
This session will explore:
- What is Place Based Capital? What is our emerging understanding of place based capital and its potential to transform local economies
- The Power of Local Ownership & Control: How can local financial control and asset ownership empower communities
- Key Insights: From the Place Based Capital Network and its collective progress
- Emerging Solutions: Local capital solutions that are already making a difference
- Real Stories: Experiences from Network members, sharing the challenges and successes of reimagining capital at the local level
Whether you're a community leader, business owned, economic development professional, or simply interested in how to empower local economies, this session will provide a valuable introduction into how place based capital is driving lasting change.
