MIECAT Public Programs is thrilled to welcome Dr Carla Van Laar for an immersive in-person workshop, where we will explore the findings of recent research into the significance of creative and experiential therapies for NDIS participants. Hosted at MIECAT in Fitzroy, this interactive presentation and arts-based workshop is designed to highlight the voices of those impacted by the uncertainty within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and to illuminate the transformative potential of creative therapies as experienced by disabled people.

Dr. Carla van Laar will lead the workshop, presenting key insights from the research, followed by an opportunity for participants to create response art that reflects their personal connections to the findings. The session will culminate in small group discussions, allowing participants to collaborate and develop shared insights into how these findings can informtheir professional practices.

Dr. Carla van Laar is a passionate researcher and practitioner specialising in creative and experiential therapies. With a focus on empowering individuals through the therapeutic arts, Carla is dedicated to amplifying the voices of NDIS participants and other marginalised people in her work. Her research and practice aim to deepen the understanding of how creative therapies can positively influence the lives of individuals navigating complex systems. With a background in creative arts therapy and allied health, Carla brings a wealth of knowledge and a supportive approach to her workshops, inspiring participants to explore new perspectives, paradigms and pathways in their professional journeys.

The workshop will take place in person at MIECAT in Fitzroy.

Participants are encouraged to bring along a journal and any other materials that inspire you, a selection of art materials will also be supplied. This workshop is suitable for adults (18+ years old).
