Women's Empowerment Self-Defence Introductory Workshop
Description
*If you have previously completed an Introductory workshop with P2SP, or have completed the Flip the Script with EAAA® program, you are eligible to register for the Extension workshop.
You matter. You have a voice. You are worth defending. Be empowered to use your mind, your voice and your body to feel respected, safe and strong with one of our upcoming self-defence workshops with Power2SelfProtect (P2SP).
Women's Empowerment Self-Defence with P2SP takes a feminist and holistic approach to self-defence, and recognises the reality of self-protection for women.
Designed for women by women, these sessions are designed to provide a range of evidence-based tools to empower, educate and equip women with the knowledge and skills needed to identify, avoid and defend against threats to their physical safety and well-being.
Note: This workshop is designed for women and is inclusive of gender diverse and non-binary people of all abilities. If you have any questions or concerns about your participation, please reach out to us at edi@monash.edu.
FAQs
- Can men come to these workshops?
No. Due to the nature of the workshop content, and with respect for the privacy and safety of participants, these workshops are not open to men.
- I have an injury or disability that impacts my mobility. Can I still attend?
Yes! These sessions are designed to be inclusive of different abilities, and we encourage you to participate within whatever capacity feels comfortable. If there are techniques you'd prefer not to perform, you're welcome to just watch.
If you're happy to do so, please let the instructor know via your waiver form or on the day of the session so that they are aware and prepared to support you, if needed.
- Do I need to have previous martial arts experience to participate?
Not at all. These workshops are designed to introduce basic but effective techniques that are accessible to the majority of people. No experience needed!
- What do I wear or bring?
We encourage you to wear clothing that you feel comfortable moving around in, with closed flat shoes (e.g. runners). Ideally, remove jewellery from the neck, wrist and hands. All you need to bring is a water bottle and towel.
- Where can I learn more self defence after this session?
Throughout the year we run extension workshops, which teach a variety of more advanced techniques. If you have completed the introductory workshop, you're welcome to register for an extension workshop when they are available.
