    Description

Ian is a relaxed and encouraging workshop facilitator who will share his expertise with a deep knowledge and passion for natural and historical landscapes of the Central West.

In this two-day workshop, Ian will guide you in how to draw and paint on copper, among the rugged hills and granite outcrops of Wyangala. Using felt tip pens the participants will translate the drawings into oil paintings. While the drawings can be an end in themselves, they can also emerge through the painted surface. On day two participants will draw and paint a still life, and explore still life compositions, using light to enhance reflections on ceramics and translating these effects onto copper sheets.

Artists have long been attracted to the lustrous glow and loose handling of oil paints and medium on copper sheet. While it was often used with images of still life, Artist Lucian Freud used copper on a small scale to paint compelling portraits.
