Encounter Youth presents: Young People, Alcohol & Other Drugs
Event description
We’re excited to announce that Encounter Youth is offering a special session for the parents and caregivers of students at our school. This session is designed to empower families with practical tools and insights, supporting them to be proactive, informed allies in promoting the health, safety, and wellbeing of young people.
The aim of the sessions is to:
- Provide parents, guardians, and caregivers with accurate, up-to-date information about alcohol and other drug use among young people.
- Equip adults with practical strategies to have open, age-appropriate conversations with their children.
- Emphasize the significant and positive influence parents can have on young people’s choices.
- Encourage early and ongoing dialogue to prevent risky behaviours.
- Help parents understand how young people assess and respond to risk differently due to brain development.
- Promote a supportive, non-judgmental approach to discussing alcohol, vaping, and other substances.
- Prepare families to respond to emergencies, including when and how to call for help.
- Connect parents with trusted resources and support services.
