India and New Zealand: Bookends of the Indo-Pacific
Event description
We are pleased to invite HE Neeta Bhushan to a FireSide Chat discussion celebrating Christchurch’s growing relationship with India. This event, hosted by New Zealand Institute of International Affairs (NZIIA), Christchurch in collaboration with UC Pols and the Indian High Commissioner, Ms. Neeta Bhushan, will feature her as our guest of honour and aims to reflect on the strengthening ties between NZ/Christchurch and India.
The theme of the evening will be "India and New Zealand, The two book ends of the Indo Pacific". The session will be moderated by Raf Manji, former TOP party leader.
The discussion will explore the potential impacts of the India NZ relationship on Security, Trade and Diaspora. We will also delve into India's rising global stature through its participation in QUAD, BRICS and other multilateral groupings. We would like to hear how Christchurch’s businesses, local government, and communities can benefit from association with India. We are keen to understand: what opportunities and challenges does this connection present, and how can Christchurch best position itself to benefit? The High Commissioners perspective on these topics would be invaluable.
With the 2023 census confirming the Indian community as New Zealand’s third-largest ethnic group, and recent shifts in government policy signaling increased diplomatic and economic engagement with India, this dialogue holds particular relevance. The implications for business, security, and community interactions are substantial, and we are honoured to include HE's insights in this conversation.
The event is scheduled for 27th of November, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Bentley's in Haere Roa, 90 Ilam Road, Christchurch
