Event description

Co-chairs Carol Berg, Trustee, Berg Family Foundation, and Dominic Sullivan, Director, PAYCE Foundation, warmly invite you to the inaugural Philanthropy Australia End Street Sleeping Peer Network event in NSW.

The End Street Sleeping Collaboration (ESSC) is a backbone organisation and a new state-based model to address and ultimately eliminate rough sleeping in NSW.  Crucially, ESSC is informed by evidence, using new technology to collect data which is then shared among all relevant service providers. This innovative methodology, using a combination of data, technology and collaboration, has resulted in encouraging early successes and significant interest throughout NSW where it will be rolled out as one of the NSW Premier’s Strategic Priorities.

Our Speakers

Christine McBride, CEO of ESSC

Christine McBride has worked in the social services sector for over 25 years, with her most recent role at the City of Sydney involving a strong focus on homelessness.

She has an excellent knowledge of the homelessness sector, a deep compassion for those sleeping rough and has been a champion of the IGH (Institute of Global Homelessness) methodology for ending street sleeping. Prior to this, Christine has worked as a service provider, service manager and policy officer in state government, and across a range of social and community services areas. Her early career focused on the disability sector, having started as a Speech and Language Pathologist working with adults and children with an intellectual disability.

Shane Jakupec, ESSC Board Member and Regional Manager of the NSW homelessness organisation Neami National.

Shane Jakupec has worked in the community managed mental health sector since 2000 and with the specialist homelessness sector since 2012. He has worked with programs such as the Housing, Accommodation and Support Initiative (HASI), Partners in Recovery (PIR) and Assertive Outreach Homelessness. Shane has qualifications in mental health, training and leadership and recently completed a Master of Social Work. He has recently been involved in the implementation of the Supported Transition and Engagement Program (STEP) in Inner Sydney. STEP is a recently funded program by the NSW Family and Community Services Department that provides funding for head leasing and support for people to move from homelessness and into safe, secure housing with support for up to a three-year period.

We hope you can join us!

This event is available to all NSW Active, Engaged, Impact and New Gen funder members.
