The annual Festival of Urbanism is a series of conversations where researchers, practitioners, community advocates and industry leaders come together to debate the threats and opportunities facing our cities. 

About

An informed citizenry, independent analysis, and robust public debate are all essential for good public policy particularly in relation to housing and urban policy. This panel event, which also celebrates the work of the inaugural Director of the Henry Halloran Trust, Peter Phibbs, features perspectives from University and industry research, independent journalism, and the public sector.

    Professor Peter Phibbs is a geographer, planner and social economist whose contributions to public discourse and debate about urbanism and housing are legendary. He was the first Director of the Henry Halloran Trust, and led the Trust’s programs of research and engagement for eight years before his retirement in 2021. He has over 20 years’ experience undertaking housing research.

    Tina Perinotto is managing editor, publisher and founder of The Fifth Estate, an on-line newspaper for green buildings and sustainable cities, established in 2009. The publication has become essential reading for business people, investors, designers, consultants, government officials and politicians working towards a more sustainable the built environment.

    Dr Erin Brady is currently Deputy Director General of the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate in the ACT Government. Eri has more than 25 years of experience in planning and development in local, state and commonwealth government, the private sector and academia. Erin completed her PhD in 2007 and Peter Phibbs was her supervisor.

     Eliza Owen, CoreLogic Australia’s Head of Research, has a wealth of experience in property data analysis and reporting. Eliza specialises in descriptive and inferential data analysis, data visualisation and framing data trends with broader economic concepts. Eliza has unpacked housing affordability on the TEDX stage, is an in-demand keynote speaker and is one of Australia’s most respected property commentators.

    Professor Nicole Gurran is an urban planner and policy analyst whose research focuses on comparative urban planning systems and approaches to housing and ecological sustainability. She has led and collaborated on a series of research projects on aspects of urban policy, housing, sustainability and planning.  Nicole was appointed Director of the Henry Halloran Trust in 2021.
