#EndTheWaiting Vigil - Macnamara electorate
Event description
What? A vigil to support thousands of people seeking asylum in Australia who have remained trapped in legal limbo for more than a decade.
Where and when? The Brigidine Ministry Centre, Albert Park, in the federal division of Macnamara, from 2-3pm, Wednesday 3rd September 2025.
Why? Asylum seekers who were rejected under the 'Fast Track' procedure, which Labor has acknowledged was unfair and inefficient, have been denied hope, dignity and justice for up to 12 years. They have received no housing or welfare and many have been prevented from working, causing entire families to become destitute.
The government can stop this cruelty today by granting permanency to all those asylum seekers who have been denied basic human rights for so long.
This vigil is part of a national campaign called #EndTheWaiting, organised by the Australian Churches Refugee Taskforce and coordinated by Common Grace. It is open to people of any faith or none.
We will gather at the Brigidine Ministry Centre, next to the historic convent in Beaconsfield Parade, to hear from asylum seekers and local political and community leaders. There will be a chance for prayer and reflection.
Help us to send a simple, quiet and powerful message that it's time for action.
